Hip Hop Artist of the Year

Lil Wayne
  • T.I.
  • Lil Wayne
  • Jay-z
  • Diddy

And the winner is: Lil Wayne!

VIBE compiled 77 of Lil' Wayne's best songs of '07 in our November issue, and we didn't even come close to listing every verse, feature, or freestyle he put to tape. Was dude rapping in his sleep? Some questions just shouldn't be answered. Either way, no one was as fierce or infallible as Weezy this year.

Best Collabo

Timbaland
  • Swizz Beats
  • Polow da Don
  • Timbaland
  • Scott Storch

And the winner is: Timbaland!

Remember when Timbo really broke out in '96 and you thought you heard the future in his shiny, gravity-free beats? More than a decade later, our man had one of his most important producing years, with a full album, new artists and protégées, and a healthy list of credits - and his beats still sound like Tomorrowland.

Best Collabo

Fabolous
  • Fabolous
    feat. Ne-Yo, "Make Me Better"
  • DJ Khaled
    "We Takin' Over"
  • Ludacris
    feat. Mary J., "Runaway Love"
  • R. Kelly
    feat. Usher, "Same Girl"

And the winner is: Fabolous feat. Ne-Yo, "Make Me Better"!

On this scorching, swaggering street ballad, the memorable chorus became our motto ("I'm a movement by myself..."), but it was the combination of Fab's low, direct delivery with Ne-Yo's swoony love-testimony that made it the song we couldn't turn off.

Song of the Year

T-Pain
  • Robin Thicke
    "Lost Without You"
  • Jim Jones
    "We Fly High"
  • Beyoncé
    "Irreplaceable"
  • T-Pain
    "Buy U A Drank"

And the winner is: T-Pain feat. Yung Joc, "Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin')"!

Mesmerizing with a woozy chorus that captured the sexy haze that settles over the club after two or three dranks, this feelgood snap single was not only the song of the year - it was the one that made T-Pain - with his voicebox, subbass and slippery synths - a bona fide star. We're still not sick of it!

Breakthrough Artist of the Year

Robin Thicke
  • Amy Winehouse
  • Robin Thicke
  • Chrisette Michele
  • Rich Boy

And the winner is: Robin Thicke!

That butter-melting falsetto, that sexy croon with the little raspy catch in it when he feels like puttin' it in - though Thicke's been around for a minute - from his debut album to his guest features with the likes of Lil Wayne and D-Block - this was the year most people had to do a doubletake at the white boy who could sing. We were lost without u, too, boo-boo!

R&B Artist of the Year

Beyoncé
  • Ne-Yo
  • R. Kelly
  • Beyoncé
  • T-Pain

And the winner is: Beyoncé!

Five syllables: "IR. RE. PLAC. A. BLE." Not only did Beyoncé provide the soundtrack to your break-up (and help give you the strength to get back on your feet), this year, as ever, the woman WAS exactly what she was singing about: our effervescent singing, dancing queen that we couldn't get enough of, and whom we can never replace.

VH1 Soul Video of the Year

Rihanna
  • R Kelly
    feat. Usher, "Same Girl"
  • Rihanna
    feat. Jay-z, "Umbrella"
  • Beyoncé
    "Get Me Bodied"
  • Ludacris
    feat. Mary J., "Runaway Love"

And the winner is: Rihanna feat. Jay-z, "Umbrella"!

The song was indelible, the hook never left your brain, but the video pulled out ALL the stops. Much more than just singing in the rain - or Jay-Z rapping in a thunderstorm - Rihanna fit Matrix-style dance moves, sexy burlesque, silver bodypaint, and raindrops like fireworks, in all of three minutes. "Umbrella" remade the art of music videos into what they should be: an event.

Mixtape of the Year

Kanye West
  • Kanye West
    "Can't Tell Me Nothin"
  • Lil Wayne
    "Da Drought III"
  • DJ Drama
    "Gangsta Grillz 16"
  • DJ Soul
    "Assorted Donuts"

And the winner is: Kanye West, "Can't Tell Me Nothin"!

Breezily mixing his rising hipster appeal with cold, hard spitting, this mixtape was the smartest, sharpest collection of remixes, exclusives and head-scratchingly hilarious interludes of the year. From sneak peeks at the Roc-A-Fella star's upcoming album, Graduation, to quick hit looks at G.O.O.D. Music's prospects like CRS, GLC and Fonzworth Bentley, this was a mix you couldn't miss.

VStyle

Beyoncé
  • Diddy
  • T.I.
  • Beyoncé
  • Kimora
  • Kanye West

And the winner is: Beyoncé!

Whether rocking a Tina Knowles original or Herve Leger pret-a-porter, no one was better dressed this year than Bey. Need proof? Just walk down a city street and look all the girls wearing 'Yonce's signature look - fluffy oversized berets, skinny jeans, boots and gilded doorknockers. You can trace the trend straight back to that Knicks game in April, where Beyoncé was photographed with Tyra and Kimora and Jay...but no, we're not stalking her style or anything.

Ringtone of the Year

Shop Boyz
  • Shop Boyz
    "Party Like a Rockstar"
  • Lil Mama
    "Lipgloss"
  • Mims
    "This is Why I'm Hot"
  • Unk
    "Walk it Out"
  • Jim Jones
    "We Fly High"

And the winner is: Shop Boyz, "Party Like a Rockstar"!

The ringtone that united America, this over-the-top, sub-bass-and-guitar-solo anthem t-t-t-totally poured out the cell phones of teens, thirty-somethings, little babies, your grandmom, CEOs, fraternity fellas, politicians and, presumably, R. Kelly. The best part? "Party" meant whatever you wanted it to mean, so long as you did it up big.

VHollywood

Will Smith
  • Ice Cube
  • Jennifer Hudson
  • Will Smith
  • T.I.

And the winner is: Will Smith!

As excellent a dramatic actor as a comedic one, the anticipation for Will Smith's upcoming sci-fi/horror film, I Am Legend, is so hot he trumped such Hollywood hip hop heavyweights as Ice Cube, T.I. and the lovely Jennifer Hudson in the vHollywood category. Cause we love him in a space suit as much as we did with a fade. (Fresh Prince, holla!)

VIBE Props

Jay-z
  • Jay-z
  • Barack Obama
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • Stephon Marbury

And the winner is: Jay-z!

Def Jam CEO. American Gangster. Boyfriend of Beyoncé. "Attract money, my worst color is light green," Hov rapped in a dazzling 2005 verse, but he did more than cake up in '07. He continued being the kind of dude we could look up to - running his business, getting nice on the mic (again), while still being the kind of global magnate/talent/superstar the world hasn't really seen since the 1980s. And for that? VIBE's gotta give PROPS.
